What is Nano Banana 2.1?

Nano Banana 2.1 is a Gemini image model from Google, built for everyday generation and conversational editing at Flash-level speed and cost.

Google's documentation recommends it over Nano Banana 2 for new work. Besides text and edits, Google also lists better overall visual quality among the changes.

On Zero Kit, Nano Banana 2.1 is included in Free and above and runs in the editor at the top of this page. Write a prompt, or upload a photo and describe the change.

What you can set:

  • Up to 10 reference images for a character, a product or a style that should carry through.
  • 14 aspect ratios, from tall phone banners to wide headers.
  • Output up to 4K, and up to 4 images per run.

Each image costs credits by resolution, starting from 5.

Good uses:

  • Posters and social graphics with a short headline.
  • Product shots in a matching series.
  • A mascot that appears in many scenes.
  • A photo you refine one instruction at a time.

For a single image that has to be as precise as possible, compare it with Nano Banana Pro. The Nano Banana family page lists every version side by side.

What Nano Banana 2.1 does well

Short text that reads correctly in images

Nano Banana 2.1 is better at putting short words into an image and spelling them correctly, which Google lists among the main improvements over Nano Banana 2.

Put the exact words in quotation marks and say where they go, such as a headline at the top of a poster or a word on a shop sign.

A poster, a menu board or a product label can come out ready to review in one run instead of needing text added afterwards. The poster styles are a quick place to start.

A charming corner bakery storefront in the early morning. A hand-painted wooden sign above the window reads "FRESH BREAD" in cream serif letters, correctly spelled. Through the glass, shelves of crusty loaves, croissants and cinnamon buns. Striped awning, potted herbs by the door, soft golden light, photorealistic, wide shot, no other text, no logos.

Consistent characters and products across a series

Describe a product or a character once, or upload a reference, and ask for it in new settings.

Nano Banana 2.1 keeps the shape, colours and details steady from one image to the next and from one edit to the next, which Google calls multi-turn consistency.

That suits a product shown in a set of scenes, a mascot used across a campaign, or a sequence of frames for a short story. To start from your own photo, use image to image.

A triptych showing the same coral-colored water bottle on a rock by a lake, on a desk next to a laptop, and in a gym bag.

A triptych of three photos showing the exact same plain matte coral-colored stainless steel water bottle with a bamboo cap, unprinted, with no markings or lettering. Left: on a mossy rock beside a calm mountain lake. Center: on a tidy wooden desk next to a closed laptop and a notebook. Right: in the side pocket of a grey gym bag on a bench. Identical bottle shape, color and cap in all three, natural light, product photography, no text, no logos.

Layouts with a sense of design

Ask for a composed graphic, not just a scene: a social post with space for a headline, a product card on a coloured background, or a page with a clear focal point.

Google points to visual design as one of the areas where this version improved. In practice it means cleaner spacing and balance when the prompt describes a layout.

Say where the subject sits and how much empty space you need.

A clean, modern social media banner layout. A pair of minimal white leather sneakers with plain white soles and no stripes, placed on the right third, floating slightly with a soft shadow, on a pastel blue background with two large soft-edged peach and lilac circles. The left half is calm empty space reserved for a headline, balanced composition, studio lighting, graphic design quality, wide format, no text, no logos.

How to write prompts for Nano Banana 2.1

  1. Put any words that must appear in quotation marks, keep them short, and say where they go: "a headline at the top that reads SALE".

  2. Describe the layout as well as the subject: where the subject sits, the background colour and how much empty space to leave.

  3. For a series, reuse the same description of the product or character in every prompt, word for word, and keep the reference images the same.

  4. When editing, say what to change and what to keep, such as "change the background to a beach, keep the bottle and the lighting". For a small local fix, inpainting is the better tool.

  5. Pick the aspect ratio before you write: a tall ratio for phone wallpapers and stories, a wide one for headers and banners.

Nano Banana 2.1 limitations

  • Text is better than in earlier versions but still not guaranteed, especially long sentences, small print and less common languages. Read every word before you publish.

  • There is no fixed seed, so the same prompt gives a different image each time. Keep the version you like and edit from it rather than expecting to reproduce it.

  • Long chains of edits can still drift, and crowded scenes with many small faces may lose detail. When an image drifts, go back to the last good version and make the change again in a shorter step.
